Burnie based Hellyers Road Distillery was last evening announced as the Regional Exporter of the Year at the Tasmanian Export Awards held in Launceston.

This is the fourth year running the distillery has been a finalist in the State Export Awards having previously won the Small Business category twice as well as being recognised as Tasmania’s Exporter of the Year in 2017.

General Manager and Master Distiller, Mark Littler was in Launceston to accept the award and was delighted with the further recognition Hellyers Road has received for its export efforts. “Export sales have grown considerably in recent years largely due to increasing interest in premium Tasmanian single malts emanating from Asia, China and Taiwan especially. Our sales in Europe also remain strong and there is growing intent from the U.S. as well. In fact, export sales of our whisky now represent slightly less than 10% of total sales” Mr Littler said.

Hellyers Road has invested in its business considerably in recent years, largely on the back of growing export enquiry and sales. It has increased its brewing and distilling program to ensure future stocks of single malt whisky can meet demand from overseas markets. “We have installed a new $2 million bottling line and increased warehousing capacity in the last two years, such is our confidence in future growth. To be named Regional Exporter of the Year franks our strategic resolve to not only produce world-class whiskies, but become a world-class whisky business” Mr Littler concluded.
