Local whisky ranked in world’s top ten

Mark Littler toasting his whisky’s success.

On top of having its Pinot Noir Finish single malt whisky recognised as a Master Whisky in the recently announced Global Whisky Master Awards, Hellyers Road Distillery has this week been rated in the Top Ten – Value for Money whiskies in the world, placing it alongside some of the world’s biggest mass producing spirits brands.

The rankings have been released by London-based liquor industry publication, The Spirits Business, convenors of the Global Whisky Master Awards.

Master distiller, Mark Littler said this latest accolade for Hellyers Road was highly valued by the emerging brand.

There is a lot of justifiable hype around Tasmania’s Whisky Industry at the moment and we are proud to be playing our part in its emergence. This international recognition for providing outstanding value is wonderful testimony to our overall brand strategy of providing world-class single malts at a very reasonable price point. We are a slightly larger operation than most other Australian distilleries enabling us to maintain stringent quality controls, yet still meet the demands of a rapidly growing market. We sincerely believe Hellyers Road Whiskies over-deliver on value” Mr. Littler said.

In 2013 Hellyers Road Distillery’s Pinot Noir Finish was recognised in blind tastings conducted at Whisky Live Paris as being Best New-World Whisky and in 2010 its Peated varietal was judged Australia’s Best Whisky by the Malt Whisky Society of Australia.

The distillery’s whiskies can now be found in 21 countries throughout Europe and more recently have become available through Japan’s largest retail department store, Takashimaya.

Mr Littler said discussions are also currently underway in support of a distribution agreement to Argentina.

He also said that Hellyers Road Distillery was now the highest-selling, home-crafted single malt whisky in the country thanks to significant distribution contracts with major liquor retailers Dan Murphys, BWS, Vintage Cellars, First Choice and the major independents.

“These are busy and exciting times for our relatively small operation”, he concluded.
