Hellyers Road Distillery is honoured to offer you the opportunity to purchase a bottle of our oldest and most historic release to date: after more than 21 years of aging, Cask #2157.05 was carefully decanted to create the oldest official bottling of an Australian single cask single malt whisky. This rare and special release is a milestone for Hellyers Road Distillery and a testament to the calibre of Australian whisky.
Cask #2157.05 was filled on June 6, 2002 and decanted August 28, 2023. Matured to perfection in a first-fill ex-Jack Daniel’s Bourbon barrel for 21 years, 2 months and 22 days, this cask yielded 179 glorious bottles at natural cask strength of 62.4% ABV. This single malt whisky is remarkably bright and vibrant, and showcases an incredible complexity that only careful, extended maturation in cask can create.
This historic release is smooth as silk and displays an incredibly complex and nuanced flavour profile that gracefully reflects its age. At first, grapefruit and marmalade lean into vanilla custard, light spice and soft nuttiness, giving way to tropical fruits alongside thick butter scotch and a malt undertone. The finish showcases time in cask with a long decadent denouement characterised by white chocolate, vanilla cream and ripe fruit.
Each bottle is housed in a unique presentation box hand-crafted by local Master wood worker Rob van Tholen from prized Tasmanian timbers: Huon Pine, Myrtle and Celery Top Pine, and includes a letter of authenticity personally signed by our Head Distiller, Fiona Coutts. Adding to its individuality and intrigue, each presentation box has a secret locking mechanism to safeguard and showcase this treasured release.
