In the heart of Tasmania’s enchanting landscape, where untouched wilderness and crystal-clear waters abound, a unique celebration unfolds every August: Tasmanian Whisky Week. From 5th to 11th August, we invite you to immerse yourself in a week brimming with exceptional spirits and unforgettable experiences to truly discover the new dawn of whisky. 

This year, we are excited to not only participate in a range of events across the state but also to host the first-ever all Northern lineup of distilleries at Hellyers Road: The Northern Tasmanian Whisky Feast. This exclusive event will showcase the finest whiskies from the region in a feast for the senses, doubling as a celebration of craftsmanship, dedication and community spirit.

“Tasmanian Whisky Week is not just about the whisky,” explains David Debattista, Sales Manager and Head of Brand Experience at Hellyers Road Distillery. “It’s the experience of everyone coming together, meeting the makers, eating fantastic food in great venues and enjoying a wonderful atmosphere. People from all walks of life, even those who aren’t whisky aficionados, are coming along for the experience.” 

The Northern Tasmanian Whisky Feast: Showcasing regional distilleries and flavours

Northern Tasmania, with its vibrant, produce-rich food scene, lush landscapes and breath-taking coastlines, captivates the senses. Its natural beauty and culinary offerings make the region the perfect setting for the Northern Tasmanian Whisky Feast. Making its debut, the event will feature an all-northern lineup of distilleries exclusively for Tasmanian Whisky Week 2024.

Hosted at Hellyers Road Distillery, the feast celebrates Northern Tasmania’s distinctive setting by having local producers proudly present their world-class creations and share their deep-rooted passion for the region. The feast promises to offer a symphony of flavours that will showcase the craftsmanship of the area.

“This is the first time ever we’ve had an event like this that’s purely showcasing what the north has to offer in terms of both the food and the whisky,” says David. “It’s really something that makes us all proud to be from this part of Tasmania.”

With five exquisite courses, each paired with a unique whisky from five renowned northern distilleries, this feast is more than just a meal; it’s an immersive journey into the heart of Tasmanian whisky. “We’ll take people at this dinner into one of our bond stores so they’ll be able to draw their own dram of whisky from a still-maturing barrel from Hellyers Road Distillery,” says David.

The Northern Tasmanian Whisky Feast will be held on Thursday, 8 August and will celebrate the talents of:

The Great Eastern Whisky Weekend
When: Friday, 2 August to Sunday 4 August
What to expect: An exclusive and immersive Tasmanian whisky weekend, where some of Tasmania’s finest distilleries unite for an unforgettable celebration of camaraderie and craft along the scenic East Coast of Tasmania.

Meet the (Boiler) Maker at the Royal Oak Hotel, Launceston
When: Friday, 9 August
What to expect: An evening filled with live music, whisky and perfectly paired beers. It’s a true Tasmanian party, capturing the vibrant spirit of Launceston. David shares, “The day after the Northern Tasmanian Whisky Feast, we’ll be part of an event called Meet the (Boiler) Maker. There will be live music, and you’ll meet the makers and have whisky and beers to match with it.”

Meet the Maker at Aura, Crown Plaza Hotel, Hobart
When: Friday, 9 August
What to expect: This exclusive event, already sold out, will feature our CEO, Derek Charge, representing Hellyers Road Distillery in the stunning setting atop the Crown Plaza Hotel.

Mary Mary Whisky Chambers at Mary Mary Bar, Tasman Hotel, Hobart
When: Friday, 9 August
What to expect: A speakeasy-style tasting in the whisky chambers of the five-star luxury hotel. “We’ll be presenting our special bottling for the Tasman Hotel that’s called The Tasman I,” says David. Expect an experience that pairs luxury with the rich flavours of whisky.

Tasmanian Spirit Showcase at Princes Wharf 1, Salamanca, Hobart
When: Saturday, 10 August
What to expect: “This grand showcase will feature whisky and gin producers, beer makers and food trucks, all set up in one space,” says David. “Hellyers Road Distillery will be there with a spectacular stand, ready to meet and chat with whisky lovers from all over.”
