The Launch of Australia’s Most Comprehensive Direct-from-Cask Experience

The Launch of Australia’s Most Comprehensive Direct-from-Cask Experience

We have officially launched Australia’s most in-depth direct-from-cask whisky experience at our Cellar Door in North West Tasmania.

After a year of searching the bond store, designing the space and perfecting every detail, we celebrated the historic launch with an event attended by Tasmanian whisky lovers, local dignitaries and community leaders on Thursday night. The evening was hosted by Head Distiller Fiona Coutts and National Sales Manager David Debattista, who shared their passion for the craft, making for a truly memorable celebration of this landmark moment in Hellyers Road history.

Among the distinguished guests at the launch event were; Teeny Brumby, Mayor of Burnie City Council (above with Fiona Coutts); Giovanna Simpson, Deputy Mayor of Burnie City Council; MP Anita Dow and Councillor Amina Keygan. Their attendance underscored the significance of this milestone for the Distillery and the tourism industry in North West Tasmania.

Inspired by the iconic distilleries of Scotland, the Distillers’ Choice experience gives whisky lovers the rare opportunity to hand bottle and label their own 500mL bottle, drawn directly from the very vessel in which it is ageing. Guests can taste and select from 14 casks ranging from 7 to 22 years old, a ripe old age that is hard to come by in Australian whisky, let alone direct from cask.

Distillers’ Choice at Hellyers Road’s Cellar Door takes visitors on a global journey, with casks sourced from destinations as varied as the islands of Madeira and Sicily, France’s famed Armagnac region, the south of Spain and much more. It is the most comprehensive direct-from-cask offering in Australia.

The custom Copper Dogs and trays have been handcrafted by Rankin & Bond in Launceston, a workshop that has mastered its craft over the past century. These historical smuggling tools allow visitors to taste directly from the cask before bottling their chosen whisky to take home. Local Alan Russell from AL’s Custom Signage crafted the wall signage, while long-term partner of Hellyers Road, Rob van Tholen made the cask signs, and leather ledger folders were made by Maka Leathergoods in Hobart. A proudly Tasmanian collection of artisans.
