A Deeply Complex Single Malt
Celebrating the peninsula that is the ancestral home of the great fortified wines, this deeply complex whisky is a marriage of whiskies fully matured in Spanish oloroso sherry casks and 50+ year old Australian port casks. Warmth and sweetness in each sip, with notes of sultanas, stewed fruits, spice, subtle orange zest and florals.
The oloroso brings nuttiness, leather and tobacco, while the tawny port brings sumptuous richness, dark chocolate and mandarin oil. An extended period of time in marrying has brought out an additional sweetness from the wood sugars, giving a touch of sweetness on the finish.
A Christopher Coates Favourite
"It's not very often that I taste something and go 'this is like tasting whisky for the first time!' It's so different, it's so unusual, it's like it's evolved separately from the rest of the world of whisky."
"there's only one other whisky that I have had that comes close - it's really unusual.... It tastes almost like it's been in a marmalade cask or something... it smells like spiced Christmas biscuits and marmalade.. it's almost like they have invented a different spirit category and I love it. As you can see from this bottle, it's nearly empty."
